If you require a design that isn’t one of our own, we may be able to create a custom etched panel based on imagery you provide. To save yourself time, before looking for artwork to send us, read our guide to help you understand what types of imagery are suitable for etching as we have minimum quality and format requirements.

Proofing process
Once you’ve placed your order, we will produce a proof showing how the design(s) you’ve chosen will look in your custom glass sizes. We do this to ensure you’re happy with your design choices and give you the opportunity to make alterations. We usually get this proof to you within 5 working days of placing your order.
After you’ve reviewed your proof, if anything isn’t quite right, let us know and we’ll re-draft the proof as many times as necessary until you’re happy with it. You may require amendments such as resizing some elements or changing a font. Only when you’re 100% happy with the proof and give us the green light, we will begin production on your glass.
On the majority of orders, when we supply glass to South Carolina (and indeed across the USA) we offer free shipping. If you like etched glass but want to add a little color, we also manufacture and supply fused glass to South Carolina.

About Etched Glass
Glass etching dates back to the 15th century and is one of the oldest forms of decorative glass. The way glass is etched has evolved over the years to enable more detailed designs and creative freedom. Today, glass is often etched through sandblasting, this is where an abrasive substance is fired at high pressure across the panel.
How do we etch glass?
We use the abrasive-blasting method, also known as sandblasting, to create our etched glass. We’ve chosen this method for a variety of reasons:
- It ensures our etched glass finish is consistent, permanent and of the highest quality.
- It enables us to offer a wide variety of highly detailed designs and even completely bespoke designs to our clients.
- It allows more light to transmit through to the home than alternatives like acid etched glass.
- It avoids the health and safety issues associated with using hazardous acid to etch glass.
Our Process
To begin, we create a custom mask matching the client’s glass sizes which contains their chosen design. This protects the areas of the glass we want to remain clear from the etching process. The glass is ran through a sandblasting chamber as a pressurized sand-like substance is fired across it’s face. Once the glass has been fully etched, the mask can be removed which reveals the clear elements of the design. For single glazed glass, we apply a protective coating to enable easier cleaning of finger smudges etc. Double glazed units don’t need this protective coating as the etched side is protected inside the sealed unit.
Perfection
Quality Redefined
What to avoid when buying etched glass
Some companies will state that they sell “etched glass” but in reality, they just apply ‘etched-effect’ stickers to the surface of glass. In sunlight, these stickers can turn yellow and even shrink over the years resulting in a very poor finish. Keep in mind if a company claims to offer “etched glass effect” panels through screen-printing, these may also experience discoloration over time.
We create our etched glass the right way by sandblasting panels to ensure a high-quality, permanent finish. It’s important to always ensure you are purchasing a genuine sandblasted, quality etched glass product to avoid dissapointment. You can see an example of the discoloration issue imitation etched glass suffers from here.

Our customers say
The four panels were so carefully packed and the dimensions were to the millimetre of our requirements. The result has absolutely transformed our hallway but has retained our lovely old door. Absolutely wonderful service. Great communication and advice. The product is real quality and will no doubt last for years. Thank you so much.
Michael G.
We have been so pleased with the lovely window created by Leadbitter Glass for our lounge door. We wanted a traditional etched pattern to reflect our Edwardian house. They perfectly matched our existing glass. The service was excellent: the company responded speedily to all our queries and shared draft designs with us to ensure we were happy with the final pane. Within days of agreeing the design, the window was dispatched to us and fitted our door perfectly.
Pip K.
We were absolutely delighted with all aspects of our dealings with Leadbitter Glass. We wanted a negative etched tree spreading across our front door and adjacent panels. With plenty of clear and precise advice from Leadbitter Glass we were able to make our own image work exactly as intended. The glass was produced on time, exactly as defined. We couldn't be happier with the result.
Phil K.
I had two etched glass panels made for our bathroom door with bespoke images. The glass was made exactly to our requirements. Excellent service and attention to detail. Kept fully up to date with progress and delivery date. I was concerned about delivery as we've received damaged goods from other suppliers in the past but I needn’t have worried as the glass came well packed. Really happy with the finished product. I would definitely recommend to friends and family.
Keith J.
Excellent customer service and product quality is first class. It was a pleasure doing business with Leadbitter Glass. Our order wasn't large by any means, but I still felt it was as important an order to them as it was to us.
Steve F.
Excellent service. Francis quickly developed my draft sketch into a finalised proposal for the etched glass panels for the new doors at our Church and made the etched glass panels within a matter of few days, enabling us to start the works as planned. The packaging of the glass panels was also superb to prevent possible damage in transit. Highly recommended.

Best result you could wish for. We are so pleased we found Leadbitter Glass which we did on an internet search. I had tried locally but no one seemed to have the expertise or vision that we hoped for. Superbly packed with communication about delivery and advise on unpacking. Project complete and we have just the best front door. A great experience.
Mary H.
I have just received my glass door panel and it is absolutely beautiful. This is the second piece of glass artwork I have ordered from Leadbitter Glass and both times the service, attention to detail, and just general helpfulness has been second to none. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.
