Etched Glass
We’ve supplied homes in Iowa with bespoke etched glass ever since we were first established in 1994. We create all of our glass to order so we can create glass to suit your home perfectly.
What designs do we offer?
In our etched glass main gallery, you’ll find a wide variety of designs, from refined etched house names and numbers to traditional Victorian etched designs. A favorite of our clients in Iowa is our Shadows of Nature range, where we immortalise the beauty of nature within etched glass panels. We also have a range of designs inspired by renowned designers Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright. These are just a few highlights from our etched glass main gallery, so whether you’re looking for something modern, classical, or a little different, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect glass for your Iowa home.
We can even produce bespoke designs if you have your own artwork or imagery you would like us to use. Here is a guide to explain what imagery is suitable for etching.

Proofing process
On every order, regardless how small, we will send a proof of your custom glass design(s), usually within 5 working days of placing an order.
After reviewing your proof, you have the option to either approve it and move forward with production, or request changes such as resizing, font modifications, or color adjustments. We will only begin production once you’re completely satisfied with the design and give your approval.

About Etched Glass
One of the oldest forms of decorative glass, etched glass has a history dating back to the 15th century. Over time, the manufacturing process has improved, allowing for more intricate designs, and this has likely contributed to its resurgence in popularity in recent years. Etched glass is now typically produced by using an abrasive or acidic substance to etch a design onto a glass panel.

Etched glass is now typically produced by using an abrasive or acidic substance to etch a design onto a glass panel.
How do we etch glass?
The abrasive-blasting method, also referred to as sandblasting, is how we make etched glass. There are several reasons why we opt for this technique:
- It ensures our etched glass finish is consistent and of the highest quality.
- It enables us to offer a wide variety of highly detailed designs and even completely bespoke designs to our clients.
- It allows more light to transmit through to the home than alternatives like acid etched glass.
- It avoids the health and safety issues associated with using hazardous acid to etch glass.
Our Process
The process starts with us making a custom mask, which is then placed on the surface of the glass that will be etched. This mask protects the areas of the glass that we don’t want to be etched. Next, the glass is placed in a sandblasting chamber and bombarded with high-speed pressurized abrasive substance. After the panel’s surface has been fully etched, we remove the temporary mask, revealing the clear, un-etched sections of the design. For single glazed glass, a protective sandblast coating is applied to the etched side of the panel to prevent fingerprints becoming permanent. This coating is not required for double glazed panels, as the etched side of the panel is enclosed within the double glazed unit.
Perfection
Quality Redefined
What to avoid when buying etched glass
While some companies may advertise “etched glass,” they actually use vinyl stickers with an etched-like appearance instead of truly etching a panel. These stickers can deteriorate and change color when exposed to sunlight, resulting in a yellowish appearance. Be aware that if a company claims to offer “etched glass effect” panels through screen-printing, they can also experience discoloration over time.
We produce etched glass panels the right way, sandblasting them to achieve a high-quality, permanent etched finish. To prevent disappointment, it is essential to ensure that you are investing in a quality sandblasted, etched glass product. Information on the problems that can occur with counterfeit etched glass can be found here.

Our customers say
The four panels were so carefully packed and the dimensions were to the millimetre of our requirements. The result has absolutely transformed our hallway but has retained our lovely old door. Absolutely wonderful service. Great communication and advice. The product is real quality and will no doubt last for years. Thank you so much.

We have been so pleased with the lovely window created by Leadbitter Glass for our lounge door. We wanted a traditional etched pattern to reflect our Edwardian house. They perfectly matched our existing glass. The service was excellent: the company responded speedily to all our queries and shared draft designs with us to ensure we were happy with the final pane. Within days of agreeing the design, the window was dispatched to us and fitted our door perfectly.
Pip K.
We were absolutely delighted with all aspects of our dealings with Leadbitter Glass. We wanted a negative etched tree spreading across our front door and adjacent panels. With plenty of clear and precise advice from Leadbitter Glass we were able to make our own image work exactly as intended. The glass was produced on time, exactly as defined. We couldn't be happier with the result.

I had two etched glass panels made for our bathroom door with bespoke images. The glass was made exactly to our requirements. Excellent service and attention to detail. Kept fully up to date with progress and delivery date. I was concerned about delivery as we've received damaged goods from other suppliers in the past but I needn’t have worried as the glass came well packed. Really happy with the finished product. I would definitely recommend to friends and family.
Keith J.
Excellent customer service and product quality is first class. It was a pleasure doing business with Leadbitter Glass. Our order wasn't large by any means, but I still felt it was as important an order to them as it was to us.
Steve F.
Excellent service. Francis quickly developed my draft sketch into a finalised proposal for the etched glass panels for the new doors at our Church and made the etched glass panels within a matter of few days, enabling us to start the works as planned. The packaging of the glass panels was also superb to prevent possible damage in transit. Highly recommended.

Best result you could wish for. We are so pleased we found Leadbitter Glass which we did on an internet search. I had tried locally but no one seemed to have the expertise or vision that we hoped for. Superbly packed with communication about delivery and advise on unpacking. Project complete and we have just the best front door. A great experience.
Mary H.
I have just received my glass door panel and it is absolutely beautiful. This is the second piece of glass artwork I have ordered from Leadbitter Glass and both times the service, attention to detail, and just general helpfulness has been second to none. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.
