Proofing process
It is of the utmost importance to us that you are happy with the glass you receive. That’s why we produce a proof for all orders placed to show how your chosen design will look in your unique glass sizes. On our proofs, grey represents etched sections and white represents clear sections. If you provide visible sizes, there will be a dashed line on your proof which represents the area of glass visible when fitted. We usually email your proof through to you within 5 working days of the date you placed your order.
When you receive your proof, if everything looks perfect you can approve it and we’ll begin production. If anything needs changing, let us know and we’ll redraft it as many times as necessary for it to be perfect, only then will we begin production.

About Etched Glass
It is believed that etched glass originated in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, where artisans used abrasive materials to create decorative frosted designs. Over the years, the production process evolved, with acid etching gaining popularity in Europe during the 15th century and becoming a hallmark of decorative glass in homes and buildings. Sandblasting was introduced as a method of etching glass during the 20th century, this allowed for even more precise and intricate patterns without the need for harsh chemicals. Today, etched glass is widely used in windows and doors in Denver homes, appreciated by homeowners for its visual appeal and privacy.

How do we etch glass?
We create etched glass by sandblasting toughened safety glass. We chose sandblasting as our etching method for several key reasons. It ensures our etched glass has a consistent, high-quality finish that lasts. It also enables us to offer our clients more intricate designs, including custom designs tailored to our clients’ preferences. Additionally, sandblasting ensures light transmits well through the glass, offering an advantage over acid etching. Most importantly, it avoids the health and safety risks associated with using hazardous acids, making it a safer and more environmentally responsible choice.
Our Process
We start by manufacturing a custom mask featuring the bespoke design, this is then applied to the area of the glass panel that will become the etched surface. This mask protects the areas we want to keep clear ensuring they are not sandblasted. We then place the glass in a chamber and fire a pressurized abrasive material across the panel to etch the exposed areas. Once the surface is fully etched, we remove the mask, revealing the clear, non-etched sections of the design. For single-glazed glass, we then apply a protective sandblast coating to make marks like fingerprints easier to clean. In double-glazed panels, this coating isn’t necessary, as the etched side is protected within the double-glazed unit.

What to avoid when buying etched glass
Some companies say they sell etched glass when in reality, they just apply “etched effect” vinyl stickers, so no etching has actually taken place. Some companies state they offer “screen printed etched glass”, again, don’t be fooled, this uses ink to mimic the effect of etched glass but no etching has actually taken place. Both vinyl stickers and screen printed glass can discolor over time in sunlight, vinyl stickers can also shrink.
We want the glass we create for our clients to be of the highest quality and to last, this is why we etch our glass by sandblasting. Sandblasting allows us to achieve a high level of detail, create bespoke designs for our clients and provide them the confidence that their etched glass will impress for many years to come.

Our customers say
The four panels were so carefully packed and the dimensions were to the millimetre of our requirements. The result has absolutely transformed our hallway but has retained our lovely old door. Absolutely wonderful service. Great communication and advice. The product is real quality and will no doubt last for years. Thank you so much.
Michael G.
We have been so pleased with the lovely window created by Leadbitter Glass for our lounge door. We wanted a traditional etched pattern to reflect our Edwardian house. They perfectly matched our existing glass. The service was excellent: the company responded speedily to all our queries and shared draft designs with us to ensure we were happy with the final pane. Within days of agreeing the design, the window was dispatched to us and fitted our door perfectly.
Pip K.
We were absolutely delighted with all aspects of our dealings with Leadbitter Glass. We wanted a negative etched tree spreading across our front door and adjacent panels. With plenty of clear and precise advice from Leadbitter Glass we were able to make our own image work exactly as intended. The glass was produced on time, exactly as defined. We couldn't be happier with the result.
Phil K.
I had two etched glass panels made for our bathroom door with bespoke images. The glass was made exactly to our requirements. Excellent service and attention to detail. Kept fully up to date with progress and delivery date. I was concerned about delivery as we've received damaged goods from other suppliers in the past but I needn’t have worried as the glass came well packed. Really happy with the finished product. I would definitely recommend to friends and family.
Keith J.
Excellent customer service and product quality is first class. It was a pleasure doing business with Leadbitter Glass. Our order wasn't large by any means, but I still felt it was as important an order to them as it was to us.
Steve F.
Excellent service. Francis quickly developed my draft sketch into a finalised proposal for the etched glass panels for the new doors at our Church and made the etched glass panels within a matter of few days, enabling us to start the works as planned. The packaging of the glass panels was also superb to prevent possible damage in transit. Highly recommended.

Best result you could wish for. We are so pleased we found Leadbitter Glass which we did on an internet search. I had tried locally but no one seemed to have the expertise or vision that we hoped for. Superbly packed with communication about delivery and advise on unpacking. Project complete and we have just the best front door. A great experience.
Mary H.
I have just received my glass door panel and it is absolutely beautiful. This is the second piece of glass artwork I have ordered from Leadbitter Glass and both times the service, attention to detail, and just general helpfulness has been second to none. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.
